Creative Prompts for Your Gratitude Journal

Have you ever started a gratitude journal? If you’re anything like me, you started it, and then it fizzled out and was set aside for something else. So, I have a brilliant idea (if I do say so myself). How about journaling for the two weeks leading into Thanksgiving?

It’s not forever.

It’s not even a whole month.

It’s doable.

Furthermore, I’m going to make it easy on you by providing prompts for you to write about each day. The prompts provided will be great stories you can share with others about your life. I hope you try it. These prompts can be put in any order you wish, and I’ve given you more than two weeks’ worth, so you can pick and choose.

Creative Prompts for Your Gratitude Journal:

  1. On the last The Hallelujah House podcast and blog, we discussed being thankful for “the mud” in life. Reflect on a season in your life, when God used a burden, sorrow, or trial to strengthen your faith in Him.
  2. Write about a time you’re grateful you were able to serve someone. How did it make you feel? How did it bless someone else? What did it teach you?
  3. Reflect on the day you began to believe in Jesus Christ? Describe what happened and write a prayer of gratitude to the Father for your salvation.
  4. Write about your spouse or another loved one. What qualities about that person are you grateful for?
  5. Write about a teacher you loved, that inspired you or encouraged you in a special way.
  6. Write a story about your mother or a mother figure in your life. What is special about her that you are grateful for and how has this quality blessed you?
  7. Write about a time someone served you with kindness. How did it change you?
  8. Write about your favorite season: fall, winter, spring, or summer. What can that season teach you about the Father?
  9. Write about a hobby or talent that brings you joy. Do you feel a communion with God when you’re doing this? What does this time of creating mean to you personally?
  10. Write about your favorite Bible verse. Why is this one your favorite and how has God used this verse to speak to you in your life?
  11. Write about a time God helped you forgive someone and what that did for you?
  12. Write about your favorite Bible story and answer the following questions. Why is it your favorite? Can you relate to a character in this story? How has it been applicable to your life?
  13. Meditate on the Christmas story; write about your gratitude to the Father for the “reason for the season.”
  14. Describe your favorite Christmas. Why are you so grateful for that Christmas?
  15. Write about your earthly father. What qualities, skills, or characteristics does/did he have that you are thankful for.
  16. Write about being a mother/father. What blessings can be found in parenting?
  17. Describe a project you had to do and completed.
  18. Write about something in nature you love.
  19. Write of your gratitude for your pets. What makes them so lovable, and how do they bless your life?
  20. Write about your grandparents. How did they build your character? What did they teach you?
  21. Write about your best friend/friends and how they bless your life.
  22. Write about a time you felt fearful and how that fear was unwarranted. How did the Father release you from fear?
  23. Write about a time you repented and knew God’s grace was sufficient.
  24. Write about a lesson you learned in life from your childhood.
  25. Write about a time you truly felt freedom.
  26. Describe your love for the country you live in. What do you love about it? How is your country a blessing to you?
  27. Write about your territory. How is your territory a blessing? Neighborhood/Neighbors, Farm/Farmlife, Apartment/ Space. Etc.
  28. Write about a gift someone gave you that was truly special and touching.
  29. Write about a gift you gave someone else that the recipient found touching.
  30. Write about your favorite place to go on vacation and how it’s blessed you spiritually.

I hope you’ll find inspiration in these gratitude prompts and you can print this list here.

From our house to yours…

 Have a wonderful, blessed Thanksgiving!
