In the Playroom: Folk Art Eggs

In the Playroom today we make folk art eggs.

While eggs are losing favor as part of an Easter celebration, they can still be a great spring time activity.  Did you know chickens start producing more eggs as the weather turns warmer? In colder regions chickens go into a rest period during the winter, and egg production slows down.

For this spring time activity find the materials and instructions  below.

Materials and Tools needed:

1. Fillable wood eggs. (Michaels sells them seasonally.)

2. White Acrylic Gesso

3. Hair dryer

4. Acrylic color paints

5. Small paint brushes

6. Egg stands (we used little medicine cups)

7. Parchment paper

8. Slips of paper

9. Bible

Instructions:

1. Spread out the parchment paper on the work surface.

2. Set the egg in the holder and paint it with the white gesso until evenly covered.

3. Quick dry with a hair dryer.

4. Open the egg to unseal them from the gesso.

5. Put them back together and paint a picture on the egg.

6. Find a scripture in the Bible while the egg is drying, and discuss the meaning of the scripture.

7. Write it down and put in egg when dry.

8. Gift to someone you love.
